Your Questions....My Answers!
- HOW LONG DOES MY HAIR HAVE TO BE TO GET WAXED? Let the razors and clippers have a break! Your hair MUST be at least 1/4 inch in length to properly be removed with the wax. This means you should STOP shaving 2 weeks (yes, a full 14 days!) Before your appointment!
- WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT? To ensure a super smooth waxing service, gently exfoliate the area you are having waxed 24 hours before your appointment. You can use an exfoliating towel, exfoliating gloves or a great body scrub for PRE WAX exfoliating.
- CAN I GET WAXED WHILE ON MEDICATIONS? It is VERY important that you inform me of any and all medications you are taking or have taken within the past 3 months...including Retin-A, Renova, Accutane, Differin or antibiotics. These medications can increase the rate of exfoliation of your skin, making your skin very sensitive to the waxing procedure. There may be an increased risk of lifting while on these types of medications. All waxing services run the risk of bruising or lifting, however, with the proper notice of any and all medications you are on, I can help to alleviate these risks by taking proper precautions!
- ANY TIPS FOR MAKING IT NOT AS PAINFUL? Take a few Advil/Ibuprofen before your appointment as it can help with some of the discomfort. If you are really worried and you are a low pain tolerance girl, also avoid caffeine and alcohol prior to your visit as both can make you more sensitive.
- CAN I GET WAXED WHILE ON MY PERIOD? I get asked a lot about waxing while it's your "time of the month". This is totally doable, I do it everyday! But I do like to tell everyone that you may be a bit more sensitive during this time (and sometimes even a few days before your cycle starts). But it's nothing you can't handle, I promise! I do simply request that a tampon be worn during the service.
I just got waxed! NOW WHAT???
- Don't sit in a hot bath for about 24 hours. A shower is ok, but just don't sit in a tub of hot water. The waxing procedure leaves you hair follicle wide open, and even though I closed down the service with an after care cream, it's best to just avoid the tub for a day.
- No tanning, saunas or steam rooms.
- Take a break from the gym, or workout BEFORE you come in (just be kind and shower afterwards)! Exercising/working out should be avoided for 24 hours because it causes the body temperature to rise. Which in turn can cause sweat to creep it's way into those freshly waxed follicles and may result in tiny surface pimples.
- Sexual activity should be avoided after bikini waxing. Friction on the skin can cause it to become inflamed and irritated.
- Don't use perfumed moisturizers on waxed areas. Apply only gentle or anti-ingrown hair moisturizers.
- Avoid using bar soap; it leaves a film on the surface of the skin that could cause ingrown hairs.
- Stick to cozy, comfy cotton clothes after your waxing service. Cotton will allow the skin to breathe and pull away any heat and sweat from the area.
My job is done, now here's what you should do at home!
Exfoliate with a buffing cloth or exfoliating gloves 3x a week.
If you work out frequently, make sure you shower after your work out, to avoid any sweat and bacteria creeping it's way into your clean hair free follicles!
Wait 4 to 6 weeks for your next appointment, shoot me a text and we'll get you scheduled!!
Sleep an extra 15 minutes because you DON'T HAVE TO SHAVE! (You will NOT shave between appointments!)
